Data for School Improvement, DSI, is the Hawaii Department of Education’s formative assessment tool and part of a curriculum development learning management system. The DSI system is a common tool for all schools that supports the formative assessment strategy in the Hawaii Department of Education's strategic plan and will provide data to inform and adjust instruction to address student needs.
It is the first Hawaii Department of Education software application for teachers and students that is integrated with the Student Information System, Lotus Notes as a centralized authentication system and the Centralized Service Desk to provide technical support.
On April 25, 2013 Global Scholar announced that it will phase out the Pinnacle Instruction software known to Hawaii DOE users as DSI after school year 2013-2014. DSI will operate as usual for school year 2013-2014. See memo in Lotus Notes Memos & Notices - Data for School Improvement (DSI) Update 6/25/13.
Support for DSI
Support procedures will remain the same for DSI utilizing the Centralized Service Desk. Global Scholar will continue to support DSI until June 30, 2014.
Exporting assessments from DSI
Updated 4/16/14 - Assessments will not be able to be electronically exported from DSI. Global Scholar recommends that Adobe Acrobat PDF copies or hard copy print outs be made of assessments if an archive is desired. The system terminates on June 30, 2014 and will not be accessible after that date.
Replacement for DSI
Updated 4/16/14 - At this time there is no replacement for DSI. However the Blackboard learning management system will be used to house the assessment items acquired for the DSI system. This will include language arts, math, science, and social studies assessment items. More information will be released when the system is ready.
Hawaiian Item Bank
There will be no further development of the Hawaiian item bank in DSI.
